A good check-up is the foundation of everything else we do. Ours are thorough, unhurried, and built around what you actually want to know about your teeth.
A routine visit at Chelsea Gardens Dental has three parts: a professional cleaning to remove plaque and tartar that brushing can't reach, a careful examination of your teeth, gums, bite, and soft tissue, and a conversation. Dr. Khan looks at every tooth individually, checks for early signs of decay and gum disease, and screens for oral cancer as a matter of course.
We take digital X-rays only when they're useful, usually once a year for bitewings and less often for a full set. Digital sensors use a fraction of the radiation of film, and you'll see the images on screen with us so nothing feels like a mystery.
For most adults, every six months is right. If you have a history of gum disease, a dry mouth, or a lot of restorative work, we may suggest every three or four months for a period. We'll tell you plainly which group you fall into and why, and the interval can change as your mouth does.
It shouldn't. If your gums are inflamed, the first cleaning can be tender, and we go slowly and numb specific areas if you'd like. Most patients find subsequent visits comfortable.
No. We take bitewing X-rays roughly once a year and a full set every three to five years, adjusted to your risk. If you've had recent X-rays elsewhere, we can request them rather than repeating them.
Yes. Request an appointment through the form or call (212) 929-4234, and we'll find a time that works. A first visit usually runs about an hour.
Send a request and we'll be in touch within one business day to find a time that works. For anything urgent, the phone is fastest.
